Ducks And Kings Kept Their Playoff Focus with Wins Against Avs

By Nick Hamilton @NickHamiltonLA for @LaVoxDeportiva

The Anaheim Ducks and L.A. Kings pulled off spectacular wins that keep themn in the Playoff race over the Colorado Avalanche in the past two days.

Ducks goalie John Gibson made 10 saves in the first period but did not return to the game due to an injury. At the start of the second period goalie Ryan Miller finished the game with 19 saves.

Alexander Kerfoot  and Tyson Jost dominated the first two periods for Colorado for a commanding 3-1 lead. The Avalanche lead the St. Louis Blues by one point, but the Blues have one game played ahead.

Adam Henrique took a pass from Corey Perry from behind the net and scored the goal, as Anaheim trailed 3-2 in the third period. Approximately 96 seconds later, Kesler scored his eight goal of the season from the slot that tied the game at 3-3.

"That's the way we're built," Kesler said. "They're more of a skilled team over there. We want to play to our strengths, and we did tonight. You can see they were stuck to the outside all night."

Andrew Cogliano tied the game 1-1 in the opening period, when he scored his 10th goal of the season on a breakaway.

The Ducks got 2 points in the Western Conference standings after Sunday night's win. Anaheim didn't achieve the past victory easily with back-to-back overtime wins, as they have 95 points in the Pacific Division.

The Kings got 3 points on Monday, and are currently in third and in the Playoffs unless something strange happens. Ducks are fourth in the Pacific and can claim a Playoff spot this weekend. They are currently holding a Wildcard spot.
