Lebron James Finally Hits L.A. In A Major Way

By Nick Hamilton (@NickHamiltonLA)

On Sunday afternoon, it was announced that NBA free agent Lebron James decided he would take his talents to Los Angeles and play for the Lakers. James signed a reported 4-year, $153.3 million deal.

After many months of speculation, sources, and reading of the tea leaves, James made a solid decision that will have him reach his ultimate goal of being a billionaire athlete sooner then later.

From the moment the free-agency period began on July 1, many wondered what team would actually gain the services of James. Would it be the Philadelphia Sixers, the Lakers, or would he remain home with the Cleveland Cavs?

As I reported to everyone several months ago, James' coming to the Lakers would be more about business then basketball. He also made it clear that his family's involvement in the decision would also carry weight.

James believes the Lakers are in position – with some of the young core they have now, could build a team that can contend for a championship soon. Also, James was not adamant about  another All-Star, such as Kawhi Leonard or Paul George to join the Lakers for him to sign with the team. He understands they can build around him. James' deal gave the team a lot of flexibility financially to acquire more players in the future. James' deal breaks down as follows: (year one - $35.65M, year two- $37.43M, year three - $39.21M, and if he opts in to his fourth year - $41M.) James is not eligible for a no-trade clause in his current deal.

After the news was announced, the 33-year old forward thanked his home area in an Instagram story. He wrote a message in text overlaying a photo from the Cavs' 2016 victory parade, "Thank you Northeast Ohio for an incredible 4 seasons. This will always be home."

James joins one of the most prestigious franchises in all of sports that housed George Mikan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, Magic Johnson, Wilt Chamberlain, Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant. All of the players mentioned with the exception of Baylor have guided the Lakers to championships.

Johnson stood and delivered to Lakers nation and the city of Angels the best player on the planet in James. He’s far from finished constructing this team, but like Nipsey Hussle, Magic and owner Jeanie Buss can take their victory lap.
