The Marathon Continues For Isaiah Thomas with Lakers

By Nick Hamilton (@NickHamiltonLA) for @lavoxdeportiva

Just two days after the Los Angeles Lakers pulled off a surprising trade, that sent Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance Jr. to the Cleveland Cavaliers, in exchange for Channing Frye, Isaiah Thomas and the Cavs first round pick. Thomas made his Lakers debut off the bench against the Mavs in Dallas, and finished with 22 points and six assist.

The marathon continued for the point guard as he made 3-pointers, a pull-up jumper and difficult drives to the basket.

Despite the Lakers having their four game winning streak snapped at the hands of the Mavs in a 130-123 loss, Thomas reminded folks that he could not only ball, with sound court vision but could also run the point effectively.

“I wanted to bring something to the table," Thomas told reporters. "I felt like I got my powers back playing on this team."

Though he struggled in the 15 games with his former Cavs team, as he returned from hip surgery, Thomas reminded us all that he could start on this team, but is willing to play whatever role Lakers head coach Luke Walton envisioned him to play for this team.

Thomas had a strong debut for Los Angeles on Saturday night, and gave the team an insight on what they could expect crafty guard. An offensive weapon with perimeter shooting off the bench, and the ability to push the flow of the game.

“I am happy to have a new start, I am happy to be here with the Lakers, happy to be with a young team that is exciting, that likes to get up and down,” Thomas explained. “That's my style of play. I am here to help in any way possible. It's a fresh start for me. I am excited.”

With Lonzo Ball still out nursing a knee injury, the Lakers are in good hands with Thomas running the point, which frees up Brandon Ingram from being the primary ball handler to be in position to do damage in his natural role on this team, along with teammates Julius Randle, Josh Hart, and Kyle Kuzma to excel in their respective roles. Though in 11th place in the Western Conference, the Lakers are much more exciting team to watch with Thomas, and with freed up cap space to acquire two max players this off season, the Lakers are in prime position for greatness.

The Lakers face the Pelicans on Wednesday night in New Orleans.
